Chicago Cubs center fielder Ian Happ's leadoff home run helped the Cubbies jump out to a 1-0 lead over the Miami Marlins on Opening Day, but it also forced a Cubs reporter to follow through on a promise to jump into Lake Michigan.
Michael Cerami of Bleacher Nation tweeted the following prior to Happ's season-opening at-bat Thursday:
Michael CeramiIf Ian Happ leads off today's game with a home run, I will jump in Lake Michigan later today.
Happ homered off Marlins starter Jose Urena, and Cerami then lived up to his word:
Per Christopher Kamka of NBC Sports Chicago, Happ's jack was the Cubs' first leadoff home run to begin a season since Alfonso Soriano hit one in 2009.
