How they won: Max Scherzer dominates Cubs with fastball

When Max Scherzer pitches like he did Monday night, there’s not much an opponent can do.

Scherzer struck out 11 over seven outstanding innings as the Washington Nationals snapped a six-game losing streak to the Chicago Cubs with a 4-1 victory.

It was Scherzer’s 30th double-digit strikeout game since 2013, second most in the MLB in that span behind Clayton Kershaw (32).

Scherzer struck out nine of the first 10 batters he faced. He's the first pitcher to do that since the Dodgers' Aaron Harang in April 2012, according to Elias Sports Bureau research.
