Houston Astros take the next step

The Houston Astros were last in the playoffs ten years ago. They were still in the National League and wouldn’t face an AL team until the World Series, that team being the eventual champions: Chicago White Sox.

For Houston, a second consecutive postseason appearance was a high point for the franchise. Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, and Roy Oswalt led the rotation. Lance Berkman, Craig Biggio, and Morgan Ensberg provided offense. Brad Ausmus was the catcher. Chris Burke was still thought to be an up-and-comer. Brad Lidge was the model closer. This was more than a good team, it was Houston’s chance at greatness.
