The All-Star Game is meant to be a celebration of the game’s greatest talent. Let’s let it be that, and only that.

In 2002, Major League Baseball’s brightest stars converged in Milwaukee to play the league’s annual All-Star Game. Eleven innings and nineteen pitchers later, Commissioner Bud Selig elected to end the game in a tie, as both sides had run out of arms to send to the mound. Following the backlash from fans and media, Selig assured the baseball world an All-Star Game would never again end with an even score.

Managers were henceforth instructed to hold back a few position players and pitchers to avoid running out of bodies for the game.
