There’s a lot of buzz about how well two members of the Mariners rotation have pitched. Those pitchers are Taijuan Walker and Mike Montgomery. Of the two I believe one of the breakouts has a shot at being legitimate and other looks like a fluke.
In Montgomery’s last two starts he’s been fantastic – against the Royals and Padres, respectively, with two complete game shutouts including 17 strikeouts and only four walks. Prior to those two starts he had a 2.73 ERA and 1.14 WHIP, which looks impressive but those numbers were at least partly driven by luck (.
