The New York Mets added more depth to their bullpen Tuesday night with the acquisition of left-handed pitcher Eric O’Flaherty from the Oakland Athletics.
The team’s official Twitter page noted “the Mets have acquired LHP Eric O’Flaherty and cash from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for a player to be named later,” while Adam Rubin of ESPNNewYork.com pointed out that New York designated Alex Torres for assignment in the corresponding roster move.
O’Flaherty boasts a 5.91 overall ERA on the season, but his numbers are much more impressive against left-handed hitters. In fact, O’Flaherty has only allowed eight hits in 43 chances against lefties this year (.
