Dodgers' Clayton Kershaw Placed on IL Because of SI Joint Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Friday star pitcher Clayton Kershaw was placed on the injured list with right SI joint inflammation in his back.

L.A. recalled relief pitcher Garrett Cleavinger to take Kershaw's spot on the active roster.

Injuries have been an unfortunate storyline for the 34-year-old the past two years. While he made 22 starts last season, finishing 10-8 with a 3.55 ERA, 1.01 WHIP and 144 strikeouts in 121.2 innings, he was forced to miss the entire postseason with a forearm injury.

The Dodgers, in turn, lost in six games to the Atlanta Braves in the NLCS.
