Developing A Plan For The Mets To Keep Yoenis Cespedes

In a final Hail Mary just shy of the trade deadline, Sandy Alderson and the New York Mets pulled off a deal to nab Yoenis Cespedes, who arguably became the most dynamic player to put on a Mets uniform during the Citi Field era. The Mets drew positive reviews in landing Cespedes without relinquishing major league-ready talent or any of their prized pitchers.

However, the one damper lingering in the background was that Cespedes is just going to be a rental.

Aside from the fact that the Mets have not doled out big money for free agents since the Bernie Madoff scandal, Cespedes has a unique clause in his contract that gives the Mets a five-day window after the conclusion of the World Series to sign him.
