The Philadelphia Phillies entered day two of the MLB amateur draft with some question marks out there. On day one the Phillies selected two middle infielders, with the idea that one will switch positions.
They didn’t fall far off the plan on day two. The Phillies used Tuesday’s third-round pick on Luke (Lucas) Williams, a shortstop from Southern California’s Dana Hills High School. The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder is a right-handed hitter. Williams batted .315 this season in 32 games. He drove in 19 runs and slapped nine extra-base hits, including four homers. Williams also played football at Dana Hills as a wide receiver and defensive back.
