There is no bigger threat to a pitcher’s longevity than a flat, lifeless fastball. From Little League to the Big Leagues, any pitcher winging pitiful fastballs is almost always greeted by a hitter sending his meager offering somewhere far away from home plate.
Corey Kluber, the American League’s 2014 Cy Young Award winner, doesn’t have a great fastball. It’s not pitiful, but relative to other dominant pitchers in baseball, his heater is ho-hum.
