Nick Groke of the Denver Post stated the circumstances surrounding Gonzalez's injury on Twitter.

"Carlos Gonzalez with mild left hand sprain. He was removed before the fifth inning. He's day-to-day, team says," writes Groke.

Brandon Barnes will fill in for Gonzalez in right field for the time being, per Groke. As ESPN Stats & Info highlighted recently, Gonzalez had been bouncing back from a slow start to the 2015 campaign:
