There’s no question that seeing Bumgarner in the Derby would be awesome, but it probably isn’t wise for the Giants.
Madison Bumgarner is a pitcher. Popular opinion would have us believe that pitchers can’t hit. After all, their job is to pitch, and Bumgarner is very good at it. He’s a workhorse, passing the 200-inning mark in each of his full seasons and posting an ERA of 2.96 since his league debut in 2009.
He’s also known for his playoff prowess. As effective as he is in the regular season, his numbers indicate that he elevates his play the later he gets into the postseason.
