Close, but not quite. Again.
San Francisco Giants starter Madison Bumgarner now has four one-hit shutouts in his career. But he has not yet thrown a no-hitter.
Sunday’s 7 1/3-inning bid against the Diamondbacks was his second-longest, trailing the 7 2/3 he threw against the Padres last September.
Bumgarner’s four one-hit shutouts match the most by any pitcher dating back to 1990. Randy Johnson (who also has a no-hitter and a perfect game) and Mike Mussina (who never threw a no-hitter) also have four in that span.
Bumgarner’s four match Matt Cain and Juan Marichal for the second-most no-hitters/one-hit shutouts in Giants history, per Elias Sports Bureau research.
