Indians designated LHP Bruce Chen for assignment.
Chen lasted 2 1/3 innings Friday against Texas, getting the hook from Terry Francona after only 35 pitches. The 37-year-old has averaged just 84.5 mph on his fastball this season and opponents have hit .500 against him in 35 plate appearances.
