No path to the major leagues is easy. Just ask Brian Dozier.
Coming through the minors, Dozier was seen as a high-floor, low-ceiling type of player who would most likely end up as a utility man. Power wasn’t something he was known for (only 16 HR in 365 minor league games), but Dozier had a good enough hit tool to advance through the minors.
After a disastrous start to the 2012 season, Twins management decided to give Dozier a shot. When he got the call, Kevin Goldstein wrote a profile on Baseball Prospectus and stated that Dozier had “a simple line drive swing and outstanding hands that allow him to spray balls all over the field” but “little in the way of upside.
