Crawford has driven in plenty of runs for the Giants, but why is his label as the RBI Guy as misnomer?
There’s been a lot of attention given to shortstop Brandon Crawford‘s RBI numbers and, to be fair, his 75 this season is second-highest on the San Francisco Giants. He’s driven in so many baserunners in clutch situations, in fact, that broadcasters and sports writers have heralded the talented infielder as this season’s “RBI Guy” for the Giants. Yet, the glitz of Crawford’s RBI numbers and the fact that they’ve become an identifying mark of—if not synonymous with—his performance at the plate overlooks and oversimplifies a number of factors that have made Crawford such a vital part of the San Francisco lineup this season.
