Is baseball’s culture of conservatism stifling its growth?

Baseball is fondly referred to as “America’s pastime,” despite football overtaking it in 1994. As a sport with a long history and an identity rooted in America’s own, baseball comes with customs and traditions that such a rich history entails. Therefore, it’s no wonder that baseball in America is rooted in conservatism, with a strict code of conductu2015an unwritten rule book of sorts.

While there’s something to be said for preserving the so-called sanctity of the game, it’s time for the baseball community at large to consider whether this conservative attitude is obstructing the natural growth of the sport.
