Houston right-hander Luis Garcia needs Tommy John surgery and will miss the rest of the season, another major blow to the Astros' starting rotation.
A date for Garcia's surgery had not been set, and the Astros said that he is expected to return at some point during the 2024 season.
Garcia, 26, was placed on the 15-day injured list this week. He left Monday's start against the San Francisco Giants after just eight pitches with elbow discomfort.
He was 2-2 with a 4.00 ERA in six starts this season.
