Jake Arrieta surrendered five runs -- four earned -- over 5 1/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Cardinals.
Arrieta was able to get out of the jam after allowing back-to-back singles in the bottom of the first inning, but it was a preview of things to come. St. Louis plated two runs in the bottom of the second on a Jason Heyward RBI single and Peter Bourjos RBI triple, and then two more runs in the fourth on a John Lackey two-run double. Jason Heyward scored the Cards' fifth run in the bottom of the sixth on a wild pitch.
