100 Miles And Rising: Breaking Down The Ken Giles Trade

Things are really starting to heat up in Lone Star State

In a trade that marked the beginning of the McPhail-Klentack era, the Phillies late inning fireballer Ken “100 Miles” Giles was shipped down south to the Houston Astros. While Giles doesn’t necessarily throw 100 mph on every pitch, he is a luxury the Phillies could afford but did not need. Philadelphia’s reluctance to trade pieces while they still had value (see Lee, Clifton Phifer) has come back to bite them before, so it was refreshing to see the front office strike while the iron was hot.
