MLB Trade Rumors: Verlander Could Be Traded, Rangers Shopping Darvish, Hamels & More

The MLB Trade Deadline is at the end of the month, and as such, trade rumors are flying across the league. With the All-Star break now over, trade talks are really starting to ramp up. We've already seen one big trade today with the Chicago Cubs acquiring Jose Quintana from the Chicago White Sox, and several more notable moves could be on the way. Here are all the latest MLB trade rumors from the hot stove you need to know.

Justin Verlander could be traded
With an aging team that is out of the playoff race at 39-48, the Detroit Tigers are expected to be sellers at the deadline. One player they may be willing to move is star pitcher Justin Verlander, according to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand.

Verlander does have a full no-trade clause, meaning he could veto any trade to a team he doesn't want to play for, and is under contract for $28 million per year through 2019. His contract also includes a $22 million vesting option for 2020 if he finishes in the top five in the 2019 Cy Young voting.

Verlander is 5-6 with a 4.73 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 18 starts so far this season.

Dodgers interested in Justin Wilson
Another player the Tigers may move is closer Justin Wilson, who the Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to acquire in a trade, according to SB Nation's Cameron J. Kaiser:

With trade speculation ramping up, the Los Angeles Dodgers are rumored to be looking for left-handed bullpen help, and reportedly have interest in Detroit Tigers closer Justin Wilson. The Dodgers currently have the best record in all of baseball, and are looking to win their first World Series since 1988. Wilson has been excellent for the Tigers all season, and a large number of his outings have come in the ninth inning after taking the closer role from Francisco Rodriguez in May.

The Dodgers have one of the top farm systems in the game, but it’s hard to imagine the Tigers being able to pry one of their top guys away just for Wilson. While lefties Andrew Miller and Aroldis Chapman were traded at last season’s trade deadline for unbelievable hauls, Justin Wilson isn’t in that tier of relief pitcher. Still, with as deep as the Dodgers farm system is, the potential for a deal that would benefit both teams is certainly there.

Wilson has recorded a 2.36 ERA with 10 saves and 49 strikeouts in 34.1 innings in 36 appearances so far this season.

Rangers shopping Yu Darvish, Cole Hamels
While Quintana was thought to be the best starting pitcher available on the trade market, the Texas Rangers may make a pair of top-tier starters available in Yu Darvish and Cole Hamels, according to ESPN's Jerry Crasnick:

The Rangers are currently three games out of a wild card spot, and their decision on being buyers or sellers at the deadline will likely be determined by their play over the next few weeks.

Darvish is in the final year of his contract, and is 6-8 with a 3.49 ERA so far this season.

Meanwhile, Hamels is under contract through at least the 2018 season, but a 2019 option becomes guaranteed if he totals 400 combined innings pitched between this season and next (including at least 200) and is not on the disabled list with a shoulder or elbow injury at the end of next season. He is 4-0 with a 3.51 ERA and 28 strikeouts in eight starts this season.
