The MLB Trade Deadline is now exactly two weeks away, and as a result, trade rumors are flying across the league as talks heat up. Contenders start to separate themselves, creating more of a sense of urgency in some of these negotiations. Here are all the latest MLB trade rumors from the hot stove you need to know.
Brewers have been the "most aggressive" in trade talks for Sonny Gray
Oakland A's pitcher Sonny Gray is the hottest name on the trade market right now with seemingly every contender trying to acquire him, but the Milwaukee Brewers have been the "most aggressive" in trying to land him, according to Bob Nightengale of USA Today.
The Brewers may be the most aggressive team pursuing Gray, who pitched three years for Brewers pitching coach Derek Johnson at Vanderbilt. The Brewers, whose rebuild has suddenly been accelerated by their first-place status in the NL Central, not only have the prospects, but also a fiery owner wanting to land him.
“There’s an old saying, “Be careful what you wish for because you may get it,’’ Brewers owner Mark Attanasio told reporters Sunday. “If you love your prospects too much, maybe that’s an issue, also.
“We have to make the right move, either way.’’
The Brewers still have to exercise caution, not thwarting their rebuild efforts because of their 4 ½-game lead over the Cubs. If they didn’t believe that the cost of Quintana was worth surrendering their elite prospects, would they give up three of their top 20 like Brett Phillips, Brandon Woodruff and Corbin Burnes for Gray?
Gray, who has two more years of arbitration before becoming an unrestricted free agent following the 2019 season, is 5-4 with a 3.72 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 14 starts this season.
Royals targeting Lance Lynn
The Kansas City Royals are also exploring their own talks for Gray, but are also interested in St. Louis Cardinals starter Lance Lynn, according to Nightengale.
The #Astros still favorites for #A's Sonny Gray, but #Royals very aggressive on him, #STLCards Lance Lynn, others https://t.co/5LVAHVuRuK

Lynn is 8-6 with a 3.40 ERA and 96 strikeouts in 19 starts this season.

Yankees scouting Todd Frazier, David Robertson
The New York Yankees are scouting Chicago White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier and reliever David Robertson ahead of the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports:
The Yankees and Red Sox are doing battle on the field – and they may vie for at least one trade target and possibly two.
Both teams had scouts in Chicago Sunday, and it is believed both had some level of interest in Chisox reliever David Robertson and Chisox third baseman Todd Frazier – though it seems that the Yankees may be more interested than the Red Sox in Robertson, and the Red Sox may have more need than the Yankees for Frazier.
The Yankees want to shore up their bullpen, and have always liked Robertson, who came up for them before moving on to Chicago as a free agent to close for them. There were hints the Yankees were also paying attention to Frazier, though they haven’t expressed a strong desire at third base and are more concerned about first base (as well as the rotation and bullpen).
New York has been looking to find an upgrade and have been gauging the market over the course of the past several months, showing interest in Mike Moustakas and Josh Donaldson at different points in the season.
Boston has been "ramping up" their efforts to land Frazier ahead of the deadline, but since New York has a better farm system and has entered the conversation, a bidding war may take place.
Frazier is batting .207 with 16 home runs and 44 RBIs in 81 games so far this season, while Robertson has a 2.70 ERA with 13 saves and 47 strikeouts in 33.1 innings in 31 games.
