The MLB season is roughly two months old, and there are already rumors flying about a few big names who could be dealt before the trade deadline. Some of these players may be taken off the trade block - and others will be put on - over the next two months as teams decide if they want to become buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. But, for now, here are the four star players who are the most likely to be traded:
1) Andrew McCutchen, OF, Pittsburgh Pirates
Pittsburgh nearly traded McCutchen to the Nationals this offseason, and they haven't taken him off the market. Yes, he's 30 years old and his continued struggles have really hurt his trade value, but as Pittsburgh prepares to undergo a total teardown and rebuild, it's important for them to get whatever future assets they can. Considering the interest in McCutchen this offseason, there should still be some suitors for him.
2) Jose Quintana, SP, Chicago White Sox
Quintana's name has been mentioned in trade rumors for the past year as Chicago nearly dealt him at last year's trade deadline. However, the White Sox are not in a rush to trade him and won't do so unless someone meets their asking price. The Astros, Braves and Pirates were all interested at the start of the season.
3) Sonny Gray, SP, Oakland A's
Oakland is simply not going to be willing to pay the amount it will take to keep Gray in town once his contract expires, so as they're known to do, the A's are ready to flip one of their best players for prospects. Because of that, he's probably more available than Quintana - but past injuries could scare some teams off. The Yankees have already expressed interest in him.
4) Jose Bautista, OF, Toronto Blue Jays
The Blue Jays re-signed Bautista on a one-year deal (with a mutual option for 2018) and he's not part of their long-term plans. Toronto doesn't appear to be going anywhere anytime soon, and Bautista's recent uptick in production has made him a viable trade asset. They likely won't get much in return, but they are willing to move him.
