The MLB hot stove has cooled off now that the non-waiver trade deadline has passed. However, there are still some rumblings around the MLB, especially with waiver trade deadline of August 31st approaching. With that in mind, here are all the latest MLB rumors and news you need to know.
Puig won't be back with Dodgers
When the Los Angeles Dodgers send Yasiel Puig to Triple-A, many thought it was only a temporary move - or that he would be traded at the non-waiver deadline. He wasn't dealt, but he could be dealt before the waiver deadline because the team isn't planning on calling him up to the major leagues, reports Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports:
Yasiel Puig is off to a nice start in Triple-A, and he could become tradeable. Though, “no one’s claiming him … if they do, they’re going to get him,” one rival exec opined. It’s not likely he’s back in the Dodgers clubhouse this year, either, as he “turned off” teammates.
Puig batted .260 with just seven home runs and 34 RBIs in 81 games with the Dodgers this season.
Cardinals not interested in Gomez
The St. Louis Cardinals had expressed interest in acquiring outfielder Carlos Gomez from the Astros before the deadline, but ESPN's Mark Saxon reports that is no longer the case:
Source tells me there is nothing doing on the Carlos Gomez front with the Cardinals. The team kicked the tires after Matt Holliday broke his thumb, but Randal Grichuk made it moot by slugging .905 in his six games since getting recalled from Triple-A.
The Marlins also expressed interest in signing Gomez, who is batted .210 with five homers and 29 RBIs before being designated for assignment.
Papelbon taking time on decision
Recent free agent Jonathan Papelbon was expected to sign with a team earlier this week, but has instead opted to take more time before making a decision, reports Rob Bradford of WEEI.com:
Obviously Papelbon original decision timetable has changed. Facing some tough decisions. Farrell said hasn't heard anything

Papelbon is expected to sign with either the Chicago Cubs or the Boston Red Sox, but other teams may now be in the mix. He has a 4.37 ERA with 19 saves in 37 appearances this season.
