The New Year is here, meaning that trade talks and free-agent negotiations put on hold for the holiday are back on the front burner of the MLB Hot Stove. There's plenty to delve into and here are the four most intriguing rumblings from around baseball for Jan. 2nd.
Royals Looking For A Starter?
The Kansas City Royals are still in the market for starting pitching help.

It's not clear just how much money the club can devote to a starter, especially with the club holding out hope that Alex Gordon returns. There are plenty of potential options, but the club is unlikely to add a high-priced arm. Taking a flier on someone (Mat Latos?) could be the best option. Jon Heyman reports the team could end up with Ian Kennedy. Of course, the Royals could elect to roll with their current staff.
Cardinals Not Done Yet?
The Cardinals said earlier this offseason they wouldn't be adding any big names. Of course, they then signed pitcher Mike Leake to a $80 million contract. Now, Heyman says the club might not be done.
"There may not be another $200 million offer forthcoming, that's true, but now there's some buzz the Cardinals may also be looking again at a big bat at first or in the outfield," Heyman wrote.
There are several quality bats left on the market, especially in the outfield. Players like Justin Upton, Alex Gordon and Yoenis Cespedes are possible options.
Gerardo Parra Drawing Interest?
The outfielder has interest from "seven or eight" teams, reports Jon Heyman. Among teams mentioned by Heyman are the Royals and Nationals. The surprising team is the Colorado Rockies, who have reportedly tried to deal Carlos Gonzales.
"No Chance" Yankees Deal Andrew Miller
The Yankees trading for Aroldis Chapman means that Miller has become expendable. However, the Yankees want a No. 1 pitcher for Miller, according to Heyman. The club asked the Astros for Lance McCullers in exchange for Miller and Houston rejected that proposal quickly. With the team asking for so much, it's unlikely Miller will be dealt.
