Spring Training is just around the corner, but there's still plenty of trade intrigue to be had around Major League Baseball. We're here to get things squared away with the biggest rumors tidbits for Saturday, January 13th.
Orioles Targeting Jay Bruce
The Baltimore Orioles appear to be battling the Chicago White Sox for the signature of free agent outfielder Dexter Fowler. What happens if the Orioles can't bring Fowler into the fold?
According to MLB Network's Jon Heyman, the Cincinnati Reds believe that the Orioles could be a possible trade fit as they continue to shop outfielder Jay Bruce. The problem here is that the Orioles' farm system has already been picked clean, and previous talks on a Bruce for Zack Wheeler deal weren't well received by the Reds (according to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal).
That may not be too much of a problem, though. Bruce's $12.5 million contract for 2016 is seen as a kind of albatross by Cincinnati management, and it appears they're willing to take mid-level prospects to offload him. As for the Orioles, they'll have a $13 million club option to play with in 2017 if Bruce makes a jump into the star echelon.
Alex Guerrero Talks Heating Up
The Los Angeles Dodgers are determined to trade outfielder Alex Guerrero before the start of Spring Training, per Ken Rosenthal.
Signed to a four-year, $28 million deal back in October of 2013, the 29-year-old Cuban was originally pegged to play middle infield for the club. However, he's been a disaster on defense -- forcing the Dodgers' hand in moving him to both third base and the outfield.
He did hit 11 home runs in just 230 plate appearances last year, and Rosenthal believes that he could be an intriguing piece as a part-time DH, part-time outfielder for an American League team. Teams that have been whispered about in speculation include the Los Angeles Angels, Cleveland Indians and Kansas City Royals.
