The Los Angeles Dodgers became the first team to advance to the World Series by eliminating the Chicago Cubs last night, while the New York Yankees can advance if they beat the Houston Astros in Game 6 tonight. However, 27 other teams are focused on the offseason, and one of them made a managerial move on Friday. Here are all the latest news & rumors you need to know:
Nationals fire Dusty Baker
The Washington Nationals announced that manager Dusty Baker will not return to the team next season.
“The Lerner family, on behalf of the entire organization, would like to thank Baker for his two years in the dugout. He led the team to the first back-to-back division titles in our history and represented our club with class on and off the field. We wish him the best going forward.
The contracts for the Major League coaching staff have also expired. The Nationals’ search for a new manager will begin immediately, and we will work with that person to build his coaching staff.”
Baker spent the last two seasons with the franchise, going 192-132 during the regular season. However, Washington failed to advance past the NLDS in each of those seasons.
Corey Seager expected back for World Series
Dodgers star shortstop Corey Seager was not included on the team's NLCS roster due to pain in his lower back, but he is expected to be back for the regular season, according to manager Dave Roberts.
