The MLB trade deadline of August 1st is rapidly approaching and the MLB trade rumors are starting to heat up. With the deadline only a few days away, teams in the postseason race are focused on improving their rosters before the non-waiver deadline. The teams selling are hoping to find prospects to boost their rebuild. Here are all the latest rumors and news from the MLB hot stove.
White Sox Shopping James Shields?
In a down pitching market, James Shields has added value. That's likely playing a role in the White Sox's decision to make him available in a trade.
James Shields is available via trade, sources say, and #WhiteSox could capitalize on spike in value: 1.71 ERA over last six starts. @MLB

Shields has a disappointing 5-12 record with a 4.68 ERA this year, but as Morosi mentions, he's been bette as of late. He's already been traded once this season, going from the Padres to the White Sox in early June. The White Sox are open to trading many players on their roster as they are six games out of the Wild Card race, despite four straight wins.
Latest On Andrew Cashner
The Padres have already flipped one starting pitcher and Andrew Cashner could be next. He's drawn plenty of interest, with the San Francisco Giants among the teams looking at him.

Ken Rosenthal reports teams wanted to see Cashner start one more time before trading for him. Cashner got that start and allowed a two-run homer in the first. But, he settled down and ended up with a quality start. The Rangers, Marlins and Blue Jays have also been linked to Cashner.
Who Wants Hellickson?
Phillies starter Jeremy Hellickson is a prime trade candidate, with several teams interested in netting him.
#Rangers and #Orioles were among several teams with scouts watching Jeremy Hellickson last night. #Marlins obviously in the mix.

The Marlins have long been connected to Hellickson. He's allowed one run in his last 14 innings (two starts), helping his value in a terrible starting pitching market.
Indians Looking At Smaller Deals?
According to Buster Olney, the Cleveland Indians could look for smaller deals than making a blockbuster. That comes despite the Indians having the farm system to pull off a major deal.
Cleveland will make upgrades, but chances are its choices will be valued more for infrastructure than headlines. Eduardo Nunez of the Twins could be a natural target because of his speed, athleticism and versatility -- he can play the left side of the infield or the outfield -- and he is having the best season of his career, with 15 doubles, 12 homers and 26 stolen bases.
Nunez could start at third baseman over Juan Uribe. The 37-year-old is hitting just .209 this season.
