The MLB hot stove has cooled off now that the non-waiver trade deadline has passed. However, there are still some rumblings around the MLB, especially with waiver trade deadline of August 31st approaching. Much of the news for today focuses on injuries. With that in mind, here are all the latest MLB rumors and news you need to know.
Zach Wheeler Elbow Okay?
The Mets starter is still trying to rehab from a bad elbow injury that has kept him out since 2014. He visited Dr. James Andrews recently after feeling some discomfort, but Adam Rubin of ESPN reports Wheeler doesn't have a major injury.
I believe the Mets will make an announcement later today about Zack Wheeler's visit to Dr. James Andrews, but I'm told there was nothing devastating discovered.
That's a promising sign for the Mets and Wheeler. The 26-year-old still has promise, despite the elbow injury.
Colin Rea Avoids Tommy John Surgery

Rea had been traded to the Marlins, but was injured after only a few innings in his first start. When that happened, the Marlins were not happy and sent Rea back to the Padres.
La Stella Will Report To Minors For Cubs
Tommy La Stella will report to Double-A for the Chicago Cubs, after first declining to report back on July 29th, reports the Chicago Tribune. La Stella wasn't looking to leave the Cubs, but rather, was considering retirement. The 27-year-old will continue his playing career and it wouldn't be a surprise if he gets called back up again at some point. The left-handed hitter is a versatile infielder.
Braves Dump Mike Aviles
The Mike Aviles Era in Atlanta did not last long, as the Braves have DFA'd just one day after landing him a trade for Erick Aybar with the Detroit Tigers.
Mike Aviles has been DFA'd by Atlanta. Tough business, man.

Aviles, who was hitting just above the Mendoza line at .210, was added only to help balance out the salary in the deal with the Tigers. At age 35, the infielder might not get another shot in the big leagues.
