Last year, Chicago relied on having a shutdown closer in Aroldis Chapman, who they acquired from the Yankees at the trade deadline last season, during their postseason run. However, Chapman is a free agent and the Cubs didn't want to spend a lot of money to sign him or former Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen.
Davis is someone who fills that need without breaking the bank. He saved 27 games with a 1.87 ERA in 45.1 innings last season, and has made the All-Star game each of the last two seasons.
Soler had trouble consistently cracking Chicago's lineup last season, batting .238 with 12 home runs and 31 RBIs in 86 games last season. He was one of the Cubs' highest-rated prospects before coming to the majors, and still has upside as a power hitter at just 24 years old.
