Ken Rosenthal reports the Mariners claimed Alonso when the A's put him on waivers. The two sides were then able to reach a deal for Alonso.
He's just a rental, but Alonso is having the best season of his career. He's hitting .266 with 49 RBis and an already-career high 22 home runs.

Powell is in his first year in the majors. The 24-year-old was actually originally drafted by the Athletics in 2012. He has seven hits in 36 at-bats, but was hitting .340 before his call-up.
