To start the 5th inning, Astros SP Justin Verlander hadn't allowed a hit all night long and the Dodgers looked lost. Swings and misses, strikeouts, and lots of soft contact.
That was, until Palo Alto, California's Joc Pederson came to the plate.
Pederson deposited a solo home run, the Dodgers first hit of the night, into the right field bleachers to tie the game, 1-1.
It only looked like a speed bump for Verlander, who cruised through the next inning, until he went up against 2017's surprise star, Chris Taylor, who worked a 6 pitch walk to bring Corey Seager up the plate. The same Corey Seager who missed the entire NLCS with a back injury.
His showed the world he's just fine as he crushed a 1-2 fastball the opposite way to give the Dodgers a 3-1 lead in the 6th inning. He knew it was gone the second it left his bat.
Not to be forgotten was 37 year old Rich Hill who struck out 7 Astros through 4 innings, giving up only one run. The incredible story of the man who was pitching in the independent league with the Long Island Ducks continued as he stifled the ice-cold Astros to allow the Dodgers super powered offense to take control.
Once Rich Hill was taken out at the end of the 4th, the Dodgers immaculate bullpen took over as Kenta Maeda, Tony Watson, Ross Stripling, Brandon Morrow and Kenley Jansen, combined for 4 scoreless innings to send Game 2 to a defining 9th inning.
Then, the Astros woke up.
In the top of the 9th, Astros OF Marwin Gonzalez hit a game tying, solo home run off closer Kenley Jansen who hadn't given up a run the entire postseason, let alone a home run!
Once the Dodgers went scoreless in the bottom of the 9th, the Astros blew the doors off Dodger Stadium. First, it was Jose Altuve to left field to give the Astros the 4-3 lead and then, SS Carlos Correa hit an absolute moonshot with a bat flip to match, to give the Astros a 5-3 lead.
But, to start off the 10th, Yasiel Puig hit a solo shot to make things ever crazier and to make the score 5-4.
After a walk to Logan Forsythe and a wild pitch to get him to second, it all came down to Enrique Hernandez.
He singled and tied the game 5-5. Yes, this game was as wild as you think, in fact you should go watch every highlight of this game. It might just be one of the best baseball games ever played.
As we headed to the 11th, we thought it couldn't get crazier, but oh don't worry. It did. George Springer hit a two run home run the other way to give the Astros a 7-5 lead.
To make things even CRAZIER, Charlie Culberson (right??) hit a solo homerun to make it 7-6 and it all came down to Yasiel Puig vs. Chris Devenski.
Devenski won. Struck him out on a 3-2 pitch swinging and the Astros tie the series 1-1
I can't breath. What a game. Game 3 is on Friday.
