The American League won their fourth straight MLB All-Star Game (and 11 of the last 14) over the National League with a 4-2 victory, giving them home-field advantage in the World Series.
Kansas City Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer was named MVP in his first All-Star game after going 2-2 with a home run and two RBIs. He's just the second Royals player to win the All-Star Game MVP (Bo Jackson).
However, the game was really about Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, who was playing in his final All-Star game as he plans to retire after the season. Though he went 0-1 with a walk, he was subbed out of the game in the third inning to a standing ovation:

Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant got the scoring started in the top of the first inning, blasting the first pitch he saw over the fence to give the NL a 1-0 lead.

They held that lead for a whole inning, then the AL took it for good in the second. Hosmer's solo shot tied the game in the bottom of the inning, making him the first Royals player to hit a home run in the All-Star Game since Bo Jackson did it in 1989 (sensing a trend?).
Kansas City fans didn't have to wait long to see their next one.
Just two batters later, Salvador Perez belted a two-run homer to give the AL the 3-1 lead, one they would never relinquish.

Hosmer added another RBI single in the bottom of the third to give the AL a 4-1 advantage. Miami's Marcell Ozuna hit a RBI single in the top of the fourth to make it 4-2, but the NL wasn't able to mount any more of a comeback than that, leaving 10 runners stranded for the game.
