A reddit thread innocently titled "Anyone interested in playing a little joke on the MLB? The more the merrier" racked in the up-votes on Friday, and is on pace to become a national sensation when it launches.
Jody Pflipsen, known to redditors as /U/Pertnear, is an avid Twins fan and since she was 14 years old, she's had a three word message that she loves to share. She simply enjoys the game!
17 years of 'enjoying sports' has gotten her plenty of recognition, especially from Twins broadcasters Dick Bremer and Bert Blyleven. But that wasn't enough - she wanted to spread this refreshingly positive message even further.
On Saturday, August 2nd, Pflipsen will be traveling with her family to US Cellular Field to see the Minnesota Twins take on the White Sox. She thought it would be a funny surprise for her unsuspecting family to have a few people join in with "I ENJOY" signs - so she contacted reddit.
"They seemed excited but warned me that it may or may not be well received. I submitted it and the first comment was from a troll," Jody told Chat Sports. "I didn't have much hope at that point. But then it took off," she said.
The reddit community instantly embraced the idea.
From Boston, to Detroit, to Oakland and everywhere in between - this Saturday, fans are planning to take the baseball world by storm. And they have every intention of keeping the trend up until the pennant race heats up in September.
Suggestions poured in for variations such as "I ENJOY BEER," which, for Pflipsen, is all a part of the fun. "It makes people laugh," she said.
"I couldn't be happier that people are enthusiastic about it...People from all walks of life, loyal to all different teams are uniting to share the simplest little message. That's pretty cool," she said.
Pretty cool indeed. On the way to your next ballgame, grab a Sharpie and a poster or simply take to Twitter with the hashtag #IEnjoy to tell the world what you're about!
