This is Alexander Poulides, 42, the charming gentleman who allegedly tossed a banana at Adam Jones on Monday. In an interview with the San Jose Mercury-News, Poulides claimed the incident wasn't racially motivated, and was hurled in "disgust" over the Giants' performance.
Poulides claims he grabbed the banana off of a catering cart and threw it on his way out of the stadium, and it was only a coincidence that it landed near Jones. "I'm embarrassed and shocked by the outcome,'' Poulides said.
Poulides, who Jones called a 'slapdick' on Twitter following the incident, had this mugshot taken after a DUI arrest back in April. He was arrested on the night of April 26, and was later released on $15,000 bail.
The Giants quickly issued a public statement, and so far haven't acknowledged Poulides or his role in the incident: "We would like to extend our sincerest apologies to Adam and the entire Orioles organization for this unfortunate incident. The inappropriate actions of this individual in no way reflect the values of our organization and our fans."
EXTRA BONUS MUGSHOT:
Poulides is actually a savvy mugshot veteran by now: his first was taken back in 2010. Here, he looks unbelievably happy for a guy who just got arrested for failure to appear in court:
