This was not a banner day for the Worldwide Leader.
First, ESPN pundit Jim Bowden got duped by a fake Twitter account impersonating NY Post writer Joel Sherman. Bowden reported the fake account's story (without citing a source), got called out, then proceeded to change his Twitter handle, delete it entirely, then create a new one. Okay...
If that wasn't enough, ESPN went on air reporting that Ben Zobrist was traded to the Pirates.
One problem - Ben Zobrist was most definitely not traded to the Pirates, and the only person reporting it was a fake Bob Nightengale Twitter account.
When you consider how insane this trade deadline was, it isn't a huge surprise that a media outlet messed a few things up...but when you call yourself "the Worldwide Leader in Sports", you should probably stop getting your stories from fake Twitter accounts with a few dozen followers. Take a lap, ESPN.
