We're just a few weeks away from the MLB Trade Deadline, and many teams are looking to add a a key piece to help their run towards a World Series ring. Here are the 8 best players that could be dealt at the deadline:
8) Carlos Gomez, Milwaukee Brewers
Milwaukee is in last place in the NL Central, and will probably be sellers at the deadline. Gomez’s numbers are down through the first half of the season, making it tougher for the Brewers to move his hefty contract. However, he's a good player both at the plate and in the field, and several teams are in need of another balanced outfielder.
7) Troy Tulowitzki, Colorado Rockies
Tulowitzki has dealt with injury problems throughout his career, when he's healthy, he can provide a team with a top-tier shortstop. He has stayed healthy so far this season, meaning the Rockies may be able to get rid of him after years of trade rumors.
6) Justin Upton, San Diego Padres
The Padres' big moves in the offseason have been a dud, as they sit well under .500 at the All-Star break. That will cause them to be sellers at the deadline, and since Upton has been productive (.259 /14 HRs / 46 RBIs), he's the most likely candidate to be moved.
5) Cole Hamels, Philadelphia Phillies
Hamels has proven to be a top-tier pitcher throughout his career, and it's almost guaranteed that he'll be moved from the trainwreck that is the Phillies. Several teams in need of starting pitching are trying to get him, but the Phillies are looking for several talented prospects in return.
4) Ben Zobrist, Oakland A's
Zobrist can play multiple positions in both the outfield and in the infield, making him quite appealing to any team that could use an offensive boost.
3) Aroldis Chapman, Cincinnati Reds
Chapman has been one of the most dominant relievers in the majors since 2012, but with the Reds struggling in the competitive NL Central, the Reds are trying to sell high in order to start a rebuilding process. Several contenders in need of an elite closer have already contacted the Reds about him.
2) Jeff Samardzija, Chicago White Sox
Samardzija is not a true No. 1 arm, but he is one of the better pitchers on the market and has a proven track record of being successful in both the AL and NL. His numbers have been hurt my Chicago's awful offense, but the White Sox seem determined to get rid of him, making him a great deal for numerous contenders.
1) Johnny Cueto, Cincinnati Reds
Cueto can give any rotation a consistent top-end starter. He's more of a rental player with his contract expiring after the season, but that hasn't scared away suitors like the Tigers, Yankees, and Dodgers, who have the money to pay him and are looking for that extra piece to put them over the top.
