Former New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies slugger Lenny Dykstra dropped a couple of bombshells during his interview with Fox Sports 1's Colin Cowherd from his playing days and his life after retirement. Here are the three biggest takeaways from the explosive interview:
4) He roomed with Billy Beane in the minors
Perhaps one of the most overlooked gems of the interview. Beane and Dykstra have two totally different personalities, and it definitely would've been interesting to hear more about the interactions between the two - the most we got was the fantastic quote below.
3) He never read a book growing up
His reasoning was that it thought it would hurt his eyes for baseball. He even said he had multiple conversations with Beane, who Dykstra said read all the time, while Beane was struggling that he needed to stop reading and his play would improve.
2) Conrad Murray - Michael Jackson's "doctor" - was in the cell next to him
1) He hired public investigators to blackmail umpires
It definitely worked - Dykstra led the majors in walks in 1993. Begs the question if anyone else has (or currently is) employing this tactic, right?
