Football is great and all, but we don't ignore baseball just because the season is over. Luckily for us, there's always something to talk about in the MLB. Winter Meetings are over and a several big name free agents have signed, but there are still plenty of rumors. We're here to highlight the three most intriguing rumblings currently out there with the MLB Rumors You Need To Know For Dec. 15th:
Yovani Gallardo Next Pitcher To Sign?
With Johnny Cueto off the market, the question becomes which starting pitcher will sign next. It could be Gallardo.
Yovani Gallardo could be next SP off the board. Teams involved at this point: Orioles, Astros, Royals.
— Chris Cotillo (@ChrisCotillo) December 14, 2015
Gallardo is just 29 years old and spent most of his career with the Brewers, before being dealt to the Rangers before 2015. Last season, Gallardo posted a 13-11 record with a 3.42 ERA and a career-high 1.41 WHIP. His career WHIP is 1.31. Gallardo won't be as expensive as the top-tier starters who already signed, so it makes sense the Orioles, Astros and Royals have interest.
Pirates Open To Dealing Melancon?
The Pittsburgh Pirates might end up moving closer Mark Melancon. GM Neal Huntington confirmed that the Pirates will listen to offers.
Huntington will listen to offers for Melancon but "we're gonna have to get something that really makes sense to even consider moving him."
— MLB Network Radio (@MLBNetworkRadio) December 14, 2015
Melancon has been one of the best closers in the NL in recent seasons. He saved 51 games last year for the Pirates, posting a 2.23 ERA. With Aroldis Chapman unlikely to be dealt until an MLB investigation is finished, Melancon is more valuable to teams in need of a closer.
Cubs Targeting Relievers?
Ken Rosenthal has a pair of interesting Cubs details. He says the team plans on playing Jason Heyward in center field and will targeting bullpen help. Here's what Rosenthal wrote:
The Cubs' current focus is on trades for relievers, according to major-league sources -- not high-end types such as the Yankees' Andrew Miller, but middle-inning and setup options who would provide additional depth.
Rosenthal also said a trade for a starting pitcher is a possibility. It seems like the Cubs aren't done making moves quite yet.
