Giancarlo Stanton is the 2016 MLB Home Run Derby Champion. The Miami Marlins outfielder beat defending champion Todd Frazier in the finals of the timed, bracket style event. Stanton started hot in the final round, but cooled off before using one of his two timeouts. He found a groove not long after resuming and finished with 20 homers.
Frazier struggled early, with just three homers before using his final timeout. Frazier wasn't able to recover and came up short with 13 homers. He failed to get the bonus time of 30 seconds by hitting two or more 440+ foot home runs.
Petco Park was cheering for the Padres’ Wil Myers, but he was eliminated in the first round. The round of the night came from Stanton, who put up an absurd 24 home runs in his opening round. He was also the only player to top 481 feet. The home run of the night might belong to Mark Trumbo, who hit one off the scoreboard.
