COLUMBIA, Mo. — Forgive Missouri basketball coach Dennis Gates if his memory is a little foggy this week.
“I have amnesia. I don't remember Tuesday,” he said Friday. “But I remember Saturday. I don't remember Tuesday for some reason, some odd reason.”
His gallows humor aside, Gates remembers Tuesday all too well.
Less than 72 hours after Saturday's buzzer-beating victory over mighty Tennessee, Mizzou came out lifeless from the start Tuesday at Auburn, falling behind 19-2 in a game the home Tigers dominated in every phase. As much as he’d like to erase the season’s most lopsided loss from his memory, Gates watched the 89-56 thrashing five times in the last few days.
