COLUMBIA, Mo. — New Missouri football coach Eliah Drinkwitz made it clear the day he was hired who would serve as his offensive coordinator: Eliah Drinkwitz.
But who would run the Mizzou defense? The answer came Wednesday: The same guy who ran it the last two years.
Ryan Walters, who had worked alongside former Tigers coach Barry Odom the last six seasons, will stay in Columbia as Drinkwitz’s defensive coordinator. Walters had two years left on a contract that pays him $800,000 a year.
Walters is the fifth assistant coach Drinkwitz has formally announced and the second holdover from Odom’s 2019 staff, along with defensive line coach Brick Haley.
