One day before UConn won its second consecutive national championship, coach Dan Hurley divulged how assembled the roster that put Purdue in a sleeper hold.
“Obviously [a] balanced roster,” he told assembled reporters. “Young players with talent that are insulated by returning players to your program that can uphold the culture. Then strategic portal additions that can put you over the top.”
That insight isn’t particularly penetrating.
Because nothing is ever really new, we’re simply repeating the same cycle that played out when Jay Wright and Villanova won two titles in three seasons, or when Scott Drew and Baylor finally broke through in 2021.
