Tigers fall flat in NCAA opener, upset by 12th seed Florida Gulf Coast

STANFORD, CALIF. • A monster performance by Sophie Cunningham wasn’t enough to keep Missouri’s season from ending.

The junior guard scored a season-high 35 points, the most ever by a Tiger in an NCAA Tournament game, but fifth-seeded Missouri fell to 12th-seed Florida Gulf Coast 80-70 in a first-round game Saturday at Stanford’s Maples Pavilion.

Despite sporting their highest seed since 1984, the Tigers (24-8) failed to make a third straight appearance in the second round. Cunningham, a two-time first-team All-SEC selection, shot 10 of 16 from the field and 14 of 16 from the foul line, but no other Tiger reached double figures.
