A breakthrough season came to an end Monday for the Missouri women’s basketball team. Trying to reach the Sweet 16 for the first time in 15 years, the Tigers stumbled at Texas, suffering a 73-55 second-round loss to the No. 2 seed Longhorns in Austin, Texas.
The Tigers (22-10), the No. 10 seed in the Bridgeport, Conn., Regional and a first-round winner over Brigham Young, fell in a deep hole quickly, unable to score inside and behind the 3-point arc. Texas raced out to a 17-9 lead through the first quarter and 36-21 at halftime. Mizzou’s only ability to create points in the first half was hoisting deep perimeter shots.
