South Carolina women’s basketball coach Dawn Staley has filed a defamation lawsuit against Missouri athletics director Jim Sterk in Richland County, S.C., regarding the comments he made in a radio interview about the Tigers’ game at South Carolina earlier this season.
According to online court records, Staley filed a civil suit against Sterk on Thursday in Richland County’s Fifth Judicial Circuit for slander/libel. Staley's attorney was unavailable for immediate comment.
After Staley's Gamecocks held off Mizzou 64-54 on Jan. 28 in Columbia, S.C., in a game that featured a scuffle that led to multiple fouls and two ejections, former Mizzou player Sierra Michaelis tweeted that South Carolina fans spit on Mizzou players at Colonial Life Arena.
