Sooner ties run deep for Mizzou's new staff

COLUMBIA, MO. • Barry Odom’s Missouri football team takes Faurot Field for its first public viewing at Saturday’s Black and Gold Game, and there’s no truth to the rumor the Tigers will be decked in new team colors crimson and cream.

Odom hasn’t parted from black and gold, but his rebuilt coaching staff is rich with hues from the Oklahoma Sooners.

Five new members of Mizzou’s staff played and coached for the Sooners. Those five — offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel, tight ends coach Joe Jon Finley, defensive line coach Jackie Shipp, offensive analyst Joey Halzle and offensive graduate assistant Jon Cooper — spent a collective 53 seasons at Oklahoma as players and coaches.
