SEC leads nation with 11 on Golden Spikes watch list

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The Southeastern Conference leads the way nationally with 11 representatives on the Golden Spikes Award Watch List, it was announced Tuesday by USA Baseball.

The Golden Spikes Award is presented annually the top amateur baseball player in the country. Florida has three student-athletes on the list, which is tied for the most nationally, while Missouri and Vanderbilt have two, and Arkansas, LSU, Tennessee and Texas A&M have one each.

The preseason watch list features 50 of the nation's top amateur players from high school and college baseball. The Golden Spikes Award Advisory Board will maintain a rolling list of athletes, allowing players to play themselves into consideration for the award throughout the season.
