For years the spring meant chasing roster spots and filling last minute needs. Coaches signed their recruits in the fall, and filled a few remaining spots in the spring.
That model may be outdated just a bit. Dennis Gates signed a five man recruiting class in the fall, which was the largest class in the SEC ahead of Alabama who signed four players. Meanwhile there have already been 77 transfers committed this spring to SEC schools, compared with just 40 overall signees from high school. I’ve only been tracking the SEC transfers since 2021, so this isn’t a super deep dive into the spring transfer window, but in 2021 there were 49 high school signees and 46 transfers into SEC teams.
