Their sports are nothing alike, but in their own ways Karissa Schweizer and Drew Lock used their talents to produce the most prolific seasons in Mizzou athletics during the 2017-18 school year. One is a multiple national champion. The other is willing to trade glitzy stats for team glory. Both will soon be professional athletes in their respective sports. For now, they’re the Post-Dispatch choices for Mizzou female and male athletes of the year.
Schweizer, the nation’s preeminent collegiate long-distance runner, is already the most decorated athlete in the history of Mizzou sports, capturing five national championships in cross country and track — with a chance to win two more this week in Eugene, Ore.
